THINKING ABOUT RECOVERING A CAT FROM AN ANIMAL’S WELFARE?
It is a good idea to adopt a cat from a shelter instead of buying from a breeder. There are so many loyal, velvety souls in the shelter who are desperate for a loving home. It is important that your new furry friend is as healthy as possible. The cats from the shelter often have a rather sad past. The supply of all important nutrients and a diet as animal-friendly as possible is important so that the cats remain healthy for as long as possible in your new home. Not only can you give your cat a nice, long life, but you can also save on expensive vet bills.

Raising Cats
Tips and tricks to train your cat better.
Cat Emergency
- The cat in distress, what to do when you don’t know what to do?
- Found a cat, encountered abandoned cats?
- Take action: call for the right thing to do!
First aid for cats
Especially in an emergency situation, it is important to carry out first aid properly! Just like with people, first aid can save lives! Every cat owner should know the most important steps and measures to take for optimal emergency care.
First aid for accidents
Here we will discuss the various accident situations and what to do to transport the cat to the vet in the best possible way.
Very important: stay calm! In emergency situations, this is generally the highest priority!
Bleeding wounds
A good compression bandage is used here.
Clean the wound of dirt and foreign particles with water or *wound spray.
Put several layers of cotton, handkerchiefs or *cellulose on the wound.
Wrap with a cloth, *bandage, stocking or tie. Make sure the bandage is tight to stop the bleeding.
The cat should be taken to the vet immediately.
WaspSpeek
Cool with cold water or ice.
If the sting is in the mouth or neck, it may block breathing if it swells. In this case, consult a veterinarian immediately.
Bite wound
Bite wound
Bite wounds from a fight with another cat or dog are often very difficult to see from the outside or appear harmless. This is deceptive, because bite wounds can be very deep. The germs contained in the attacker’s saliva are also dangerous. At least 50% of them lead to infection.
The cat should be taken to the vet immediately.
It should also be noted that a cat bite in humans also requires medical treatment! Especially bites on the hand and wrist almost always lead to infection! If the attacker is a wild or abandoned animal, there is also a risk of rabies infection: almost eradicated in our part of the world, but never impossible. Rabies is always fatal!
Foreign body in the mouth
Foreign body in the mouth
Small toys, wood splinters, plants, pieces of plastic and other small objects can easily block the throat or windpipe.
Hug the cat’s head from behind.
Press on the corners of the mouth to get the cat to open its mouth.
Remove foreign objects with * tweezers.
If the cat does not cooperate, you should work in pairs here. But always be careful, otherwise the situation may quickly deteriorate.
If the attempt fails, a vet should remove the foreign body from the cat under general anaesthetic.
Sunburn
Sunburn
This can happen quickly if the cat cannot find shade, for example on the balcony, in the attic or in the car.
Signs:
Weak breathing
salivation
panting
open mouth
unconsciousness
Move the cat immediately to a shady, cool place.
Moisten the fur with water.
The cat should be taken to the vet immediately.
Make sure the car is not overheated during transport.
Panic
Panic
When the cat is panicking and/or in great pain, its reactions are very unpredictable. It is also important to pay attention to the health of the helpers! The cat may bite or scratch. Some cats may also accidentally injure themselves. It is best to quickly wrap the cat in a blanket. The blanket can also be thrown on the cat from behind or above and then quickly wrapped around it. This also prevents it from running away.
Shock
Signs:
Weak breathing
cold legs
Pale mucous membranes
In this condition cats usually react apathetically, others may even lose consciousness. Here you lay the cat on its right side, ensure free breathing and fresh air and prevent hypothermia.
Changing bandages
Changing bandages
First aid should always be provided by a veterinarian and should be checked and changed every two days until it has healed. However, you can change the dressing if your vet agrees.
It is best to work in pairs here.
Wash hands thoroughly and *use disinfectant hand gel. *Sterile gloves are also available.
Carefully unroll the bandage. Pay special attention to the last few centimetres, because with heavily weeping wounds it can happen that the wound sticks to the bandage. If that is the case, cut off the remaining bandage and carefully saturate the bandaged area with *salt solution until it can be lifted easily.
Gently remove ointment residue and dried blood from the wound with a *sterile dressing and saline. Avoid rubbing directly on the wound.
Sweaty wounds should be freshly bandaged and well flushed with saline solution daily. Use antiseptic rinsing solution or antibiotic ointment as directed by the veterinarian.
Cats have sweat glands on the underside of their paws. Therefore, the head bags should be stuffed with 100% *cotton wadding.
Cotton absorbs moisture well. If the wound is directly on the paw, a sterile *wound pad should be used instead of cotton. Place this pad between each toe. Otherwise, blood circulation problems may occur in the toes.
Apply a *sterile dressing to the wound.
Start with the leg and bandage the entire leg up to the ankle. It is best to use 100% cotton *roll cotton wool.
An additional *crepe paper bandage strengthens the bandage. This serves to relieve the wound and promotes faster healing.
An elastic *fixation bandage forms the end. This prevents slipping and is fixed with *roll dressings before and after a joint.

How do you help stray cats?
In our blog articleBlog we give guidelines on how to treat stray cats and kittens. These instructions are suitable for active animal rights activists and for anyone who wants to become one. We focus on how to recognise a stray cat and what measures are appropriate to help it lead a dignified life.
With this article, we want to motivate people to get involved in animal welfare. Everyone can walk through the world with their eyes open and pay attention to animals that are not doing well or are being tortured.
Assessing animal abuse
We are publishing the current rulings so that the rights of cats remain protected.

What we do for you and the cats of this world
We help
- Become known to animal shelters, animal welfare organisations and non-profit organisations that care for animals.
- Through collecting telephone numbers for cat emergencies, cat owners and cat rescuers offer help in emergency situations to do the right thing.
- arranging adoptions and sponsoring cats by publicising them on our online channels and our website.
- By providing useful information on our blog for solving emergency situations such as cat abandonment, cat injuries, family cat problems and animal cruelty.
Please note – this website previously contained the website of the Felidae association, which unfortunately had to be abandoned. Now there is a new appearance on this website – the appearance of “Help for cats and tips”! We are planning many useful blog articles with advice for cat owners and adopters. There is also a collection of emergency telephone numbers for cats to call for help in emergencies.
In honour of the previous website owner, we have written an article retelling the history of the association. Access the article here: About Us
Species-appropriate cat food free from factory farming (Cruelty to animals)
Behind most conventional animal products, there is a lot of suffering and animal cruelty caused by the factory farming, which unfortunately hardly anyone is interested in. So it is worth doing without if you want to do something good for animals.
It is a shame if someone loves animals more than anything else and then buys the conventional food and even pays for animal suffering.
Unfortunately, our cats and dogs cannot live without meat, which is why it is so important to make sure when buying food that you are not supporting the factory farming industry.
Here you will find food from Sweden. In Sweden, they have the strictest animal welfare law in the world, so there is no factory farming there!
